James William Clegg was my first cousin, twice removed.  His mother and my great grandfather, William Newell Edmonds, were siblings.

Elizabeth O. Edmonds (1856-1941)


Elizabeth "Eliza" O. Edmonds was born in Clarke County, Georgia in 1856. She was the ninth of eleven children born to the marriage of James Powell Edmonds and Rebecca Ann Snow.

The 1860 U.S. Census shows Eliza living with her family in Dark Corner, Clarke County, Georgia.


Eliza is shown living with her family in Monroe, Walton County, Georgia on the 1870 U.S. Census.


On December 18, 1875, Elizabeth "Eliza" O. Edmonds married Thomas Perry Clegg in Walton County, Georgia.  Thomas was born in October of 1856 and was a brother to Hiram A. Clegg who married Eliza's sister, Susan Catherine Edmonds.


The 1880 U.S. Census shows Eliza, Thomas and two of their four children living in Walton County, Georgia.


By 1900, Eliza and Thomas had two more children.  The family is shown in the 1900 U.S. Census living in Brook, Walton County, Georgia.


The 1910 U.S. Census shows Eliza, Thomas and two of their children living in Cut Off, Walton County, Georgia.  


Eliza, Thomas and two of their children are seen living in Broken Arrow, Walton County, Georgia in the 1920 U.S. Census.


The 1930 U.S. Census shows Eliza, Thomas and three of their children living in Mountain, Walton County, Georgia.


Thomas Perry Clegg died on January 13, 1932.  The 1940 U.S. Census shows Eliza living with her son, James William Clegg and family.


Elizabeth "Eliza" O. Edmonds Clegg died on November 23, 1941.  She is buried near her husband in the Clegg Family Cemetery #1 in Walton County, Georgia.  Tombstone photograph was taken by FindAGrave member, Rebekah Duncan Young.

Elizabeth "Eliza" O. Edmonds was my paternal great grand aunt through her brother, my great grandfather, William Newell Edmonds; his son, Bruce Edmonds; and his grandson, Bruce Alfonso Edmonds.

Susan Catherine Edmonds (1852-1923)


Susan Catherine Clegg was born in Clarke County, Georgia on April 19, 1852. She was the seventh child born to the marriage of James Powell Edmonds and Rebecca Ann Snow.

The 1860 U.S. Census shows Susan living with her family in Watkinsville, Clarke County, Georgia.


By 1870, Susan's father, James Powell Edmonds, had died in the Civil War. Susan is seen in the 1880 U.S. Census living with her mother and six siblings near Monroe, Walton County, Georgia.


The 1880 U.S. Census shows Susan Edmonds as head of household and living in Walton County, Georgia.  This census was taken in June of 1880.


On October 29, 1880, Susan Catherine Edmonds married Hiram A. Clegg in Walton County, Georgia


As the following U. S. Census records show, Susan and Hiram made their home in Walton County where they five children.

Susan Catherine Edmonds Clegg died on July 4, 1923.  She is buried in the Clegg Family Cemetery #1 in Walton County, Georgia.  Hiram A. Clegg died on January 12, 1930.  He is buried alongside his wife.


The following children were born to the marriage of Susan Catherine Edmonds and Hiram A. Clegg:
Sallie Frances, 1881-1959 (m. William P. Clegg, 1870-1944)
William A., 1884-1967
Thomas Sanford, 1886-1961 (m. Bertha Huff, 1886-1944)
Joel Wesley, 1889-1967 (m. Lena Moon, 1885-1979)
Wilton Lumpkin, 1893-1919 (m. Eva G. Hogan, 1895-1919)
