Samuel A. Edmonds (1844-1932)


Samuel A. Edmonds was born in Walton County, Georgia on January 7, 1844. He was the third of eleven children born to the marriage of James Powell Edmonds and Rebecca Snow Edmonds.

The 1850 U.S. Census shows Samuel A. Edmonds living with his family in Watkinsville, Clarke County, Georgia.


The 1860 U.S. Census shows him living with his family in Dark Corner, Clarke County, Georgia.


On March 12, 1862, Samuel A. Edmonds joined the military and fought on behalf of the Confederate States of America.  He was a Private in Company G, 42nd Infantry Regiment, Georgia.  On August 31, 1864, he was shot in the stomach and honorably discharged.  He filed for pension in October of 1912 and was approved for 1913.

On July 15, 1867, Samuel A. Edmonds registered to vote in Walton County, Georgia.

On December 20, 1867, he married Emily "Millie" Austin in Walton County, Georgia.  Millie was the daughter of James Austin and Mary Sorrells.


The 1870 U.S. Census shows Samuel, Millie and daughter Mary living on Hog Mountain, Gwinnett County, Georgia.


By 1880, Samuel and Millie were the parents of four children.  Samuel, Millie, Mary Rebecca, James Wesley, Martha "Mattie" Beatrice and Harland Parker Edmonds are shown living in Gwinnett County, Georgia on the U.S. Census.


The 1900 U.S. Census shows Samuel and family living in Dacula, Gwinnett County, Georgia.  Ella Bertha and Samuel Neese Edmonds have been born and Mary Rebecca and James Wesley are no longer living with their parents.


The 1910 U.S. Census shows the family living in Dacula, Gwinnett County, Georgia.


The 1920 U.S. Census shows Samuel A. Edmonds as widowed.  Living in the household are his children, Martha "Mattie" Beatrice, Ella Bertha and Samuel Neese Edmonds.


The 1930 U.S. Census shows Samuel as widowed.  His daughters, Martha "Mattie" Beatrice and Ella Bertha also reside with him in Dacula, Gwinnett County, Georgia.


Samuel A. Edmonds passed from this life on February 29, 1932 and is buried in the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery in Dacula, Gwinnett County, Georgia.

Harlan Parker, Sr., 1877-1957 (m. Mattie Lou Lee, 1883-1942)
Ella Bertha, 1885-1969
Samuel Neese, 1893-1955 (m. Hester Paradise, 1905-1992)
Samuel A. Edmonds was my paternal great grand uncle through his brother, my great grandfather, William Newell Edmonds; his son, Bruce Edmonds; and his grandson, Bruce Alfonso Edmonds.
