Elizabeth O. Edmonds (1856-1941)


Elizabeth "Eliza" O. Edmonds was born in Clarke County, Georgia in 1856. She was the ninth of eleven children born to the marriage of James Powell Edmonds and Rebecca Ann Snow.

The 1860 U.S. Census shows Eliza living with her family in Dark Corner, Clarke County, Georgia.


Eliza is shown living with her family in Monroe, Walton County, Georgia on the 1870 U.S. Census.


On December 18, 1875, Elizabeth "Eliza" O. Edmonds married Thomas Perry Clegg in Walton County, Georgia.  Thomas was born in October of 1856 and was a brother to Hiram A. Clegg who married Eliza's sister, Susan Catherine Edmonds.


The 1880 U.S. Census shows Eliza, Thomas and two of their four children living in Walton County, Georgia.


By 1900, Eliza and Thomas had two more children.  The family is shown in the 1900 U.S. Census living in Brook, Walton County, Georgia.


The 1910 U.S. Census shows Eliza, Thomas and two of their children living in Cut Off, Walton County, Georgia.  


Eliza, Thomas and two of their children are seen living in Broken Arrow, Walton County, Georgia in the 1920 U.S. Census.


The 1930 U.S. Census shows Eliza, Thomas and three of their children living in Mountain, Walton County, Georgia.


Thomas Perry Clegg died on January 13, 1932.  The 1940 U.S. Census shows Eliza living with her son, James William Clegg and family.


Elizabeth "Eliza" O. Edmonds Clegg died on November 23, 1941.  She is buried near her husband in the Clegg Family Cemetery #1 in Walton County, Georgia.  Tombstone photograph was taken by FindAGrave member, Rebekah Duncan Young.


The following children were born to the marriage of Elizabeth "Eliza" O. Edmonds and Thomas Perry Clegg:
James William, 1877-1960 (m. Louelah J. Towler, 1884-1949)
Mattie Emma, 1879-1961
Elizabeth Ophelia, 1882-1942 (m. Gabriel White, 1868-1933)
Mary Myrtice, 1884-1958
Elizabeth "Eliza" O. Edmonds was my paternal great grand aunt through her brother, my great grandfather, William Newell Edmonds; his son, Bruce Edmonds; and his grandson, Bruce Alfonso Edmonds.
