Bynum Family Wins Star Brand Shoe Contest

Hattiesburg American
In 1929 the London Dry Goods Company in Hattiesburg, Mississippi was giving away pairs of Star Brand shoes on what appears to be a weekly basis.

The winner for the week of February 19 was the Ben Bynum family of Sumrall, Mississippi.

Ben and Annie Sumrall Bynum were my paternal great grandparents.  John, the oldest of their thirteen children, was my grandfather.

Their other children were Minnie Frances [Sumrall], Narvel Houston, Thomas Terrell, Robert Earl, Bertha Rebecca [Odom], Annie Roberta "Bertie" [Nichols Alphin Bobinger], Bessie Lee Anna [McQueen], Nancy Arella [Ford], Daniel Gordon, Howard Ben, Margaret Evelyn, and Mary Lois [Robinson].

By 1929, the only children living at home were Arella, Gordon, Ben, Margaret and Mary Lois.

I wonder who got the free pair of shoes?
